Artist's Comments

Hmmm, meant to work on a model for my demo reel, but decided to take a QUICK break and sketch something...

....

Ugh... some quick break that was, 5 hours later, and its now 2am LOL... Oh well, at least i painted something... i could keep going on this but i think its done enough. Feel free to crit this hard, but keep in mind that it was a "quick" sketch as far as my sketches go... i am getting faster though =D

Its a crusader running away from a lost battle with a few archers hot on his tail.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weird there is some bad jpeg artifacting on his red cloth... its just a fat colour until i uploaded it to deviant art... oh well
Thanks! it was so fun doing the light vs the shade!
Yeah, I like it a lot, the only thing I have to say is about composition. The composition is really good don't get me wrong, but if he is trying to flee I (this is just my own opinion) feel as the he should be jammed up against the right and we can see the archers on the left way back in the distance. This would give the impression that he has no where to go. As the painting is I do not feel like he is fleeing, but rather he is charging relentlessly into battle with no fear. This isn't a bad thing, but the space on the right I think gives the wrong impression, but a good one none the less.
Otherwise the art is truly amazing and like it a lot.
Just one man's perspective, then again I'm not the artist ;)
No that is a really good point! Thanks, initially i had him charging into battle, but it sort of looked dull... like, why was he charging with no one else around. Thats why i put the arrows, so your crit is totally valid, and it really was my fault for changing the entire purpose of the drawing LITERALLY right at the end. =( So i really need to learn to plan my drawing out more at the start i guess
Thanks for the awesome crit!
Not a problem and I'm glad to see that you were receptive. Oh and trust me I have the same problem of sometimes going on headfirst without a plan lol...I think a lot of artist get so excited and just totally get bored of taking time to sit and plan things out. I know I do at least. Keep up the good work :D
i love the sense of motion in this, particularly his pose and the red cloth. the colors are so awesome-- the setting looks so desolate. lovely work!
